Recap
Baylor dominated from the opening kickoff, with Bryce Petty orchestrating a devastating offensive display that saw the Bears score touchdowns on four of their first five possessions. The first quarter was particularly brutal for West Virginia, as Baylor's defense forced a fumble on a punt return that resulted in a defensive touchdown, while Petty connected with Antwan Goodley for 61 yards and a score, added a rushing touchdown, and found Tevin Reese for another touchdown pass. Lache Seastrunk's 80-yard touchdown run in the first quarter exemplified Baylor's total control, and despite West Virginia managing touchdown passes from Clint Trickett to Kevin White in both the first and second quarters, the Bears' explosive offense never let up, with Seastrunk scoring again on a 19-yard rush late in the half. The 73-42 final score doesn't fully capture how thoroughly Baylor dominated, as the Bears racked up 872 total yards and converted an impressive 11 of 15 third-down attempts while West Virginia managed just 394 yards and converted only 3 of 15 third downs.
- Petty's 61-yard touchdown pass to Goodley on Baylor's opening drive set the tone for a dominant performance
- West Virginia's fumble on a punt return in Q1 that resulted in a defensive touchdown highlighted Baylor's defensive aggressiveness
- Seastrunk's 80-yard rushing touchdown in Q1 demonstrated Baylor's ability to hurt West Virginia on the ground
- Baylor's two rushing touchdowns from Martin and Seastrunk in the second quarter, combined with offensive control, put the game completely out of reach
