Belt context

Where this game sits in the lineage

Baylor came in 294 days into reign #285, which began with a win over Kansas State, with 4 defenses already behind it; this was its 5th defense. Baylor went on to defend it 7 more times before Oklahoma State took it on November 23, 2013, 371 days after the reign began.

For Buffalo this was its 3rd shot at the belt; it had never held the belt. It still hasn’t: 3 attempts in all, every one of them a loss or a tie.

This is the only time Baylor and Buffalo have met with the belt on the line.

Recap

Baylor's explosive offense was on full display from the opening drive, as Bryce Petty connected with Tevin Reese for a 61-yard touchdown just over a minute into the game to set the tone for what would become a rout. Buffalo struck back early with a Branden Oliver rushing touchdown and kept pace with two Alex Neutz touchdown receptions, but couldn't stop the Bears' relentless attack. Baylor's running back committee of Lache Seastrunk and Shock Linwood punched in multiple scores, while Petty added another on the ground and an 83-yard bomb to Antwan Goodley before halftime. By the second quarter, the game had turned into a showcase of Baylor's offensive firepower, with Aaron Jones's perfect extra point kicking capping off an overwhelming performance that left Buffalo with no answer for the Bears' high-octane scheme.

Tevin Reese's 61-yard touchdown reception on Baylor's first drive established immediate momentum and showcased the passing attack that would define the game
The 83-yard Petty-to-Goodley touchdown late in Q1 effectively put the game out of reach and demonstrated Baylor's explosive big-play capability
Lache Seastrunk's 33-yard rushing touchdown in Q2 epitomized Baylor's balanced ground game that Buffalo couldn't contain
Buffalo's two Branden Oliver and Joe Licata scoring drives kept the deficit manageable early but proved insufficient against Baylor's relentless offensive output
