Belt context

Where this game sits in the lineage

Baylor came in 343 days into reign #285, which began with a win over Kansas State, with 9 defenses already behind it; this was its 10th defense. Baylor went on to defend it 2 more times before Oklahoma State took it on November 23, 2013, 371 days after the reign began.

For Kansas this was its 2nd shot at the belt; it had never held the belt. It still hasn’t: 3 attempts in all, every one of them a loss or a tie.

This is the only time Baylor and Kansas have met with the belt on the line.

Recap

Baylor's dominant offensive performance secured the belt with a comprehensive 59-14 victory over Kansas. The Bears wasted no time establishing control, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter alone, including a 62-yard bomb from Bryce Petty to Tevin Reese and rushing scores by Lache Seastrunk and Glasco Martin. Petty orchestrated a clinic through the air, connecting on deep strikes to receivers like Jay Lee (44 yards) and Corey Coleman (49-yard TD) while also adding a rushing TD himself in the second quarter. Kansas managed only one offensive highlight worth noting—a 45-yard completion from Montell Cozart to Rodriguez Coleman in the third quarter—as the Jayhawks' limited yards (308 total) reflected an inability to mount any sustained resistance.

Petty to Tevin Reese 62-yard TD in Q1 (9:17) — set the tone for Baylor's explosive offensive dominance from the opening drive
Three Baylor TDs in Q1 (Seastrunk and Martin rushing scores) — buried Kansas early and established complete control of the game
Petty to Corey Coleman 49-yard TD in Q3 (11:18) — highlighted Baylor's continued aerial assault when the game was already decided
Kansas' 45-yard Cozart to Coleman completion in Q3 (6:35) — the Jayhawks' only notable offensive gain of the game
