Belt context

Where this game sits in the lineage

Missouri came in 249 days into reign #265, which began with a win over Arkansas, with one defense already behind it; this was its second defense. Missouri went on to defend it 3 more times before Oklahoma State took it on October 11, 2008, 284 days after the reign began.

For Southeast Missouri State this was its first shot at the belt; it had never held the belt. It still hasn’t; this remains its only belt game.

This is the only time Missouri and Southeast Missouri State have met with the belt on the line.

Recap

Missouri dominated Southeast Missouri State from start to finish, scoring touchdowns on five of their first six possessions to put the game completely out of reach by halftime. Chase Daniel was surgical in the passing game, connecting with Jeremy Maclin, Jared Perry, and Derrick Washington for scores while the Tigers' rushing attack added two more touchdowns from Washington. Southeast Missouri State managed only a defensive score when Sean Weatherspoon returned an interception for a touchdown in the second quarter, but the Lions were otherwise stymied throughout the afternoon. Missouri's defense forced two turnovers while their offense was flawless with zero turnovers, and the Tigers controlled the line of scrimmage despite SEMo's time-of-possession advantage. The 52-3 final score reflected complete dominance as Missouri successfully defended the belt against overmatched FCS competition.
