Belt context

Where this game sits in the lineage

Texas came in 14 days into reign #323, which began with a win over Michigan, with one defense already behind it; this was its second defense. Texas went on to defend it 2 more times before Georgia took it on October 19, 2024, 42 days after the reign began.

For UL Monroe this was its 2nd shot at the belt; it had never held the belt. It still hasn’t: 2 attempts in all, every one of them a loss or a tie.

This is the only time Texas and UL Monroe have met with the belt on the line.

Recap

Texas dominated UL Monroe from start to finish, scoring touchdowns on five of its first six drives to build an insurmountable lead. Arch Manning was efficient early, connecting with Isaiah Bond for 56 yards in the opening quarter before finding the end zone three times to receivers Jaydon Blue and Ryan Wingo. UL Monroe's offense sputtered throughout, managing only 111 total yards and generating just two third-down conversions all game, while turning the ball over twice on interceptions. Texas's defense forced three Manning interceptions but maintained enough offensive firepower to keep the Warhawks perpetually behind, with running backs Jaydon Blue and Jerrick Gibson punching in additional scores in the second half. The belt remained firmly in Longhorn hands after this lopsided 51-3 victory.

Arch Manning's first-quarter touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo (17 yards) capped an early scoring drive and signaled Texas would be in complete control
UL Monroe's offensive stagnation—managing only 111 total yards and 2-12 third-down conversions—made any comeback mathematically impossible
Multiple interceptions by Manning kept UL Monroe's defense on the field but the Warhawks' anemic offense could never capitalize on field position
