Where this game sits in the lineage

TCU came in 26 days into reign #291, which began with a win over West Virginia, with 2 defenses already behind it; this was its third defense. TCU went on to defend it 10 more times before Oklahoma State took it on November 7, 2015, 371 days after the reign began.

For Texas this was its 8th shot at the belt; it had held the belt 4 times before.

It was the first of 2 meetings between the two with the belt on the line; all-time TCU leads 2–0.

Recap

TCU's defense suffocated Texas from the start, forcing four interceptions and a fumble while the Horns struggled to move the ball consistently. Texas jumped out to an early lead with a defensive touchdown on Terrell Lathan's fumble return in the first quarter, but TCU methodically took over the game through the air, with Trevone Boykin finding Josh Doctson repeatedly downfield. After trailing early, TCU scored on a David Porter touchdown reception in the second quarter and never looked back, dominating the second half with scores from Boykin (both passing and rushing), Aaron Green, and a relentless defensive effort that forced Texas into bad decisions. The Horns' six turnovers to TCU's two told the story of a lopsided affair that saw the Frogs pull away decisively in the fourth quarter.

Terrell Lathan's 40-yard fumble return touchdown in Q1 gave Texas an early 7-0 lead but proved to be their only touchdown of the game
Josh Doctson's repeated completions from Trevone Boykin (20 yards in Q2, 38 yards in Q2, 21 yards in Q3, and a 22-yard TD in Q4) established TCU's aerial dominance
Tyrone Swoopes' interceptions to Sam Carter and Paul Dawson in Q3 essentially ended Texas's comeback hopes and gave TCU short fields
Aaron Green's two rushing touchdowns (30-yard drive leading to TD in Q4, 5-yard run in Q4) capped TCU's dominant performance
