Belt context

Where this game sits in the lineage

Florida came in 242 days into reign #261, which began with a win over Ohio State, with one defense already behind it; this was its second defense. Florida went on to defend it 2 more times before Auburn took it on September 29, 2007, 263 days after the reign began.

For Troy this was its 2nd shot at the belt; it had never held the belt. It still hasn’t: 4 attempts in all, every one of them a loss or a tie.

It was the first of 2 meetings between the two with the belt on the line; all-time Florida leads 2–0.

Recap

Florida dominated Troy from start to finish, establishing control early with back-to-back touchdowns from Kestahn Moore and Tim Tebow in the first quarter to jump out to a 21-7 lead. The Gators' offense proved relentless, with Tim Tebow leading an aerial assault that included a 5-yard touchdown pass to Percy Harvin and setting up scoring drives throughout the first half. Despite Troy's early response on Omar Haugabook's 31-yard rushing touchdown, Florida's superior offensive efficiency and third-down conversion rate (7 of 12) allowed them to control the clock with 20:15 time of possession. The Gators added three more touchdowns before halftime, including another Moore rushing score, to put the game firmly out of reach well before the second half began. Florida's Belt defense remained intact as they cruised to a 59-31 victory.
