The top-ranked, 12-0 Florida Gators of coach Urban Meyer met the 2nd ranked, 12-0 Alabama Crimson Tide of coach Nick Saban in the SEC Championship game with the winner taking The Belt to the BCS Championship match-up.  This game marked the first time two 12-0 teams had met in a regular season in a Belt match-up.  Alabama wanted this match-up all season after they fell to the Gators in the 2008 SEC Championship 31-20 denying the top-ranked Crimson Tide their chance at both The Belt & BCS National Championship.  One year later they claimed their redemption as Heisman Trophy winning, All-American RB Mark Ingram scored 3 touchdowns as Alabama rolled to a 32-13 win to claim The Belt & end Florida's 12-game reign.  The Crimson Tide was intent on enforcing their will on the game early & after winning the coin-toss, they wanted the ball instead of deferring the choice until the 2nd half as is common.  Alabama drove to the Gators' 31-yard line before All-American PK Leigh Tiffin kicked a 48-yard field goal that gave the Crimson Tide a lead they did not release.  Alabama's defense made a statement on their first appearance forcing the Florida offense to punt after just 3 plays & the Crimson Tide's offense took advantage.  Ingram accounted for 36 yards rushing on an 8-play, 76-yard drive with the touchdown coming on a 7-yard run through the middle giving Alabama a 9-0 lead after Tiffin missed the extra-point attempt but the statement the Crimson Tide had wanted to make for a year was clear; they were not going to be pushed around & outplayed this time.  Florida's All-SEC QB Tim Tebow dominated the next drive as he accounted for all 56 yards through his rushing & passing before the Gators settled for a 48-yard field goal from PK Caleb Sturgis making the score Alabama 9 Florida 3 as the 2nd quarter started.  It was clear that the Crimson Tide's plan offensively was to create long, time-consuming drives to keep the high-powered Gators' offense off the field & out of rhythm.  A 12-play, 68-yard drive by Alabama  took 5:47 & resulted in a 34-yard field goal by Tiffin giving the Crimson Tide a 12-3 advantage.  It took Florida just 4 plays to drive 70 yards with Tebow throwing a 23-yard touchdown pass to WR David Nelson as the momentum shifted to the Gators but the shift was short-lived as Ingram broke loose taking a short screen pass from Alabama QB Greg McElroy 69 yards to the Florida 3-yard line.  Ingram's 3-yard touchdown run over left-tackle gave the Crimson Tide a 19-10 lead.  Just before halftime, Sturgis kicked a 32-yard field goal sending the teams to intermission with Alabama leading 19-13 as the Crimson Tide's game plan was working perfectly.  After forcing the Gators' to punt on their opening possession of the 2nd half, McElroy connected on a 17-yard touchdown pass to WR Colin Peek to finish a 5-play, 74-yard drive pushing the lead to 26-13.  As the Alabama defense continued to frustrate the Florida offense, the Crimson Tide's offense put together the drive that would essential end the reign of the champions.  Midway through the 3rd quarter, Alabama got the ball at their own 12-yard line where the Gators' defense hoped to force a quick change of possession.  Crimson Tide's RB Trent Richardson took a hand-off on the first snap from scrimmage over left tackle for a 25-yard gain that seemed to demoralize the Florida defense.  The run started a 14-play, 78-yard drive that took 8:47 running a minute & a half into the 4th quarter.  The drive ended with Ingram's third touchdown run coming on a 1-yard push over right guard for the final points.  The Gators final hopes of a rally ended when Tebow's pass into the end zone was intercepted by All-American CB Javier Arenas.  McElroy finished with 239 yards passing with a touchdown while Ingram added 113 yards rushing to his 3 scores.  Tebow threw for 247 yards with a touchdown & an interception in his final Belt game.  Florida finished the season 13-1, ranked 3rd nationally while the Crimson Tide finished 14-0, National Champions, & BCS Champions.  Florida would play for The Belt again in 2010.
