The top-ranked, 5-0 Florida Gators of coach Urban Meyer traveled to Baton Rouge to meet the 4th ranked, 5-1 Louisiana State Tigers of coach Les Miles.  A hard-hitting defensive struggle saw a single touchdown as the Gators retained The Belt with a 13-3 win over the Tigers.  It looked as if Florida might overwhelm the Louisiana State defense on their opening drive as All-SEC QB Tim Tebow led the Gators on a drive starting from their own 7-yard line.  Mixing short passes with their strong rushing attack, Florida drove 82 yards in 13 plays before the Tigers' defense stiffened at their 11-yard line & forced a 28-yard field goal from Gators' PK Caleb Sturgis for a 3-0 Florida lead.  The Gators' second drive ended early in the 2nd quarter when they were unable to convert a 4th & 1 play at the Louisiana State 21-yard line.  The ensuing Tigers' drive was highlighted by a 26-yard pass from QB Jordan Jefferson to WR Brandon LaFell as well as personal foul penalties called against Florida's All-SEC DE Carlos Dunlap & All-American CB Joe Haden.  Louisiana State drove to the Gators' 2-yard line before settling for an 18-yard field goal from PK Josh Jasper to tie the game at 3-3 with 5:16 left in the half.  Florida followed with the game's only touchdown drive; an 8-play, 80-drive with Tebow throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass to WR Riley Cooper just before halftime as the Gators took a 10-3 lead.  In the 3rd quarter, Florida ran 19 offensive plays while the Tigers ran just 5 but the Gators could not covert the offensive domination into any points as Sturgis missed a 20-yard field goal on the only scoring opportunity of the quarter.  Midway through the 4th quarter, Sturgis kicked a 32-yard field goal for the final points of the game as the Florida defense continued to stymie the Louisiana State offense.  Tebow finished with 134 yards passing with a touchdown as well as an interception.  Jefferson threw for just 96 yards with an interception as the Tigers offense was held to just 162 yards of total offense.  Florida finished the season 13-1, ranked 3rd nationally while Louisiana State finished 9-4 & ranked 17th nationally.  Louisiana State has not played for The Belt again.
