The 3-2 Texas Tech Red Raiders of coach Spike Dykes met the 2nd ranked, 5-0 Nebraska Cornhuskers of coach Tom Osborne.  The Cornhuskers rushed for 400 yards, including 178 yards with a touchdown from All-Big XII RB Ahman Green, & the offense held the ball for 36:35 of the game but it was the defense that was overwhelming.  Nebraska’s Blackshirts defense held the Red Raiders to 17 yards rushing & 127 total yards in a 29-0 win.  After the Cornhuskers punted on their first two possessions, PK Kris Brown started the scoring for Nebraska with a 32-yard field goal with just 0:20 left in the 1st quarter.  Nebraska's QB Scott Frost connected with RB Joel Makovicka on a 3-yard touchdown pass to finish a 10-play, 71-yard scoring drive.  After a short punt gave Nebraska the ball at the Red Raiders' 44-yard line, Brown hit a field goal from 41 yards as the Cornhuskers took a 13-0 halftime lead.  On the opening drive of the 3rd quarter, Brown connected on a 31-yard field goal at Nebraska pushed the lead to 16-0.  It was clear everything was going the Cornhuskers' way when faced with a 2nd & goal from the Texas Tech 13-yard line, Green fumbled the ball at the Red Raiders' 4-yard line into the end zone.  Nebraska's OG Jon Zatechka fell on the ball for a touchdown giving the Cornhuskers a 22-0 lead.  The final touchdown came on a 7-yard run by Green that finished a 12-play, 80-drive.  Frost added 83 yards rushing to his 46 yards passing as the Cornhuskers held the ball for 36:35 of game time.  For the Red Raiders, QB Zebbie Lethridge threw for 110 yards but was sacked 5 times.  Nebraska finished the season 13-0; Big XII Champions, ranked 2nd nationally while the Red Raiders finished 6-5.  Texas Tech would play for The Belt again in 1998.
