The 3rd ranked, 4-0 Nebraska Cornhuskers of coach Tom Osborne traveled to Waco to meet the 1-3 Baylor Bears of first-year coach Dave Roberts.  Nebraska’s All-Big XII RB Ahman Green rushed for 158 yards with 4 touchdowns in the first half as the Cornhuskers dominated the Bears 49-21 to retain The Belt.  Midway through the 1st quarter, Green scored his first touchdown on a 3-yard touchdown run.  Following the kickoff, the Bears tied the game quickly with an 80-yard touchdown run by RB Jerod Douglas.  Nebraska took advantage of the first turnover of the game late in the quarter.  Baylor's QB Jeff Watson fumbled a snap that the Cornhuskers recovered at the Bears' 15-yard line.  On the next play, Cornhuskers' RB Joel Makovicka scored on a 15-yard touchdown run giving Nebraska a 14-7 lead with 0:37 left in the 1st quarter.  The 2nd quarter was all Green as he scored on runs of 58, 2, & 30 yards to put the Nebraska ahead 35-7.  Cornhuskers' RB Jay Sims scored on a 2-yard touchdown run as Nebraska took a 42-7 lead to intermission.  Cornhuskers’ QB Scott Frost scored on a 1-yard touchdown run for the only points of the 3rd quarter & Nebraska started substituting liberally.  Baylor got a 1-yard touchdown run from RB Darrell Bush & LB Kenyada Parker recovered a Nebraska fumble in the end zone as time expired for the final points.  Frost finished with 103 yards passing with 71 yards rushing with a touchdown.  For Baylor, Douglas was held to just 4 yards rushing on his other 14 carries while Watson threw for just 66 yards with an interception in the loss.  Nebraska finished the season 13-0; Big XII Champions, ranked 2nd nationally while the Bears finished 2-9.  Baylor would play for The Belt again in 1998.
