The 13th ranked, 6-0 Colorado State Rams of coach Sonny Lubick made their first Belt defense against the 3-3 Texas El-Paso Miners of coach Charlie Bailey.  Colorado State's QB Anthoney Hill threw for 2 touchdowns while RB E.J. Watson rushed for 2 touchdowns while the defense held Texas El-Paso to just 23 yards rushing in a 47-9 rout of the Miners.  The game is played in a steady drizzle & things started poorly for Texas El-Paso when KR Sam Rogers mishandled the opening kick-off allowing Colorado State's CB Steve Standifer to tackle him in the end zone for a safety.  Midway through the 1st quarter, the Rams got a 2-yard touchdown run from Watson for a 9-0 lead.  The Rams got another touchdown late in the quarter after a 5-play, 61-yard drive highlighted by a 34-yard reverse by WR Jeremy Burkett.  Burkett caught the 13-yard touchdown pass from Hill giving Colorado State a 15-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.  Hill connected with TE Steve Hodge on a 3-yard touchdown pass as the Rams pushed the lead to 22-0.  Colorado State's PK David Napier hit field goals of 24 & 32 yards giving the Rams a 28-0 lead before Texas El-Paso’s All-WAC PK Marshall Young converted a 40-yard field goal attempt leaving the score Colorado State 28 Texas El-Paso 3 at the half.  Watson’s second touchdown came on a 2-yard run after Rams’ CB Raymond Jackson intercepted Texas El-Paso's QB Shawn Gray at the Texas El-Paso 42-yard line.  Four plays later, Watson was in the end zone as the Rams took a 35-3 lead.  Napier’s 30-yard field goal made the score 38-3 & when RB Renard Carn broke loose for a 47-yard touchdown run, Colorado State had a 45-3 advantage heading into the final quarter.  Texas El-Paso’s WR Cedric Johnson blocked a kick by Colorado State's P Matt McDougal & returned it 2 yards for a touchdown but the Miners still trailed 45-9.  The Rams appeared to score when All-WAC S Greg Myers returned a punt 72 yard to the end zone but the play was nullified by a holding penalty.  The final points came when Colorado State's DE Craig Mock sacked Gray in the end zone for the Rams’ second safety of the game.  Hill finished with 223 yards passing with his 2 touchdowns while the Rams’ offense held the ball for 33:18.  Gray was held to 116 yards passing as he was sacked twice & intercepted once.  Colorado State finished the season 10-2; WAC Champions, ranked 16th nationally while the Miners finished 3-7-1.  Texas El-Paso would play for The Belt again in 2 weeks.
