The 15th ranked, 6-2 Stanford Cardinal & first-year coach Bill Walsh came to Seattle to meet the 2nd ranked, 7-0 Washington Huskies of coach Don James.  The Huskies rushed for 275 yards & 3 touchdowns while the defense held the Cardinal to 42 yards rushing on 40 attempts in a 41-7 win.  The Cardinal actually took a 7-0 lead just 3:04 into the game when QB Steve Stenstrom connected with WR Justin Armour on a 31-yard touchdown pass but the Huskies ran off 41 consecutive points as Stanford never again threatened.  The Cardinal's touchdown was set-up when CB Darrien Gordon intercepted Washington's QB Mark Brunell & the score marked the first time this season that the Huskies trailed in a game.  Late in the 1st quarter, Brunell connected with RB Leif Johnson on a 3-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7-7.  Brunell gave the Huskies the lead for good when he scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to finish an 11-play, 85-yard drive for a 14-7 advantage.  Washington's LB James Clifford scored on a 42-yard interception return as the Huskies pushed the lead to 21-7 as the teams went to halftime.  Brunell connected with WR Jason Shelly on a 40-yard touchdown pass for a 27-7 lead.  Following a 12-play, 69-yard drive, Huskies’ RB Matt Jones scored on a 3-yard touchdown run as the lead stretched to 34-7.  Washington's QB Billy Joe Hobert finished the scoring with a 50-yard touchdown run early in the 4th quarter.  Brunell finished with 161 yards passing with 2 touchdowns as well as 2 interceptions to go with his rushing score & Shelley added 5 catches for 117 yards with his touchdown while Stanford All-American RB Glyn Milburn was held to 39 yards rushing & Cardinal quarterbacks were sacked 7 times by the Huskies defense.  Washington finished the season 9-3; Pac 10 Co-Champs, ranked 11th nationally while the Cardinal finished 10-3, Pac 10 Co-Champs & ranked 9th nationally.  Stanford would play for The Belt again in 1994.
