Coach Chuck Shelton led the 2-5 Pacific Tigers as 43-point underdogs against the top-ranked, 6-0 Washington Huskies of coach Don James. The Huskies rushed for 299 yards & 4 touchdowns including 2 touchdown runs by QB Mark Brunell in a 31-7 victory. The Huskies opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run from All-Pac 10 RB Napoleon Kaufman & Brunell scored on a 3-yard touchdown run as Washington took a 14-0 halftime lead. Washington's PK Travis Hanson hit a 35-yard field goal for the only points of the 3rd quarter. Brunell scored on a 13-yard touchdown run & RB Etecka Huckaby capped the Washington scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run. The Tigers got on the board with just 0:24 to play when back-up QB Troy Kopp connected with WR Kale Wedemeyer on a 47-yard touchdown pass. Brunell threw for 102 yards with his rushing scores while Kaufman finished with 128 yards rushing with his touchdown for the Huskies. For the Tigers, QB Dave Henigan threw for 141 yards, WR Aaron Turner had 124 yards receiving & RB Ryan Benjamin, the 1992 NCAA All-Purpose Yardage champion, was held to 87 yards rushing & -1 yard receiving in the losing effort. Washington finished the season 9-3; Pac 10 Co-Champs, ranked 11th nationally while the Tigers finished 3-8. Pacific suspended their football program in 1996 & has not played for The Belt again.
